Central Florida Community College will present Flamenco Vivo. The awe-inspiring performances of the group uphold the purity and traditions of flamenco and classical Spanish dance while pushing the boundaries of the art form.

The Performing Arts Series event is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Curtis Peterson Auditorium, 3810 W. Educational Path in Lecanto. A Saturday performance in Ocala is sold out. Tickets are $20 to $22 and can be purchased by calling 352-854-2322, ext. 1416.

"The national dance community recognizes Carlota Santana’s Flamenco Vivo as the premier Spanish music and dance company currently touring the U.S. and they regularly perform to sold-out audiences in New York City," said Dr. Jennifer Fryns, director of Visual and Performing Arts. "I have seen this group perform live several times and have always loved the formal yet beautiful interaction between the men and women dancers. The dancers’ high energy, combined with the musicians’ fast and complicated rhythms really makes you want to get up and move!"

The dance company believes that the universal spirit of flamenco, a multicultural art form, has the power to build bridges between cultures and inspire audiences from diverse backgrounds. The group will give several educational performances for area students and nursing facility residents. The performances and educational component are funded in part by a grant from the Southern Arts Federation in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the CFCC Foundation Performing Arts Series Cultural Endowment Grant.

For information about the Performing Arts Series, call 352-854-2322, ext. 1416.
