Central Florida Community College will present the musical comedy revue "Forbidden Broadway" in January.
The Performing Arts Series event is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, at Curtis Peterson Auditorium in Lecanto, 3810 W. Educational Path. The show is set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, at the Fine Arts Auditorium of the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. Tickets are $22 to $27 and can be purchased by calling 352-854-2322, ext. 1416.
" ‘Forbidden Broadway’ is a walk down a funny lane for people who know the most familiar Broadway shows and a hysterical introduction to these shows for those who don’t," said Dr. Jennifer Fryns, director of Visual and Performing Arts. "It’s a light-hearted spoof of everyone’s favorite musicals."
The cast will also conduct a workshop with CFCC vocal and theater students.
"Forbidden Broadway" was first seen at Palsson’s Supper Club on New York’s Upper West Side in 1982. Gerald Alessandrini assembled musical parodies of Broadway shows he had written since childhood into a nightclub act. The show was a hit and has become New York’s longest-running musical comedy review. It has won Drama Desk, Obie and Outer Critics Circle awards.
For information about the performances, call 352-854-2322, ext. 1416.
