Students from the College of Central Florida demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in projects completed through fall semester.
Students from the Associate in Science Early Childhood Education program at CF participated in the Ocala/Marion County and Belleview Christmas parades, representing the letters of the alphabet to kick off the United Way’s Letter of the Week campaign. The goals of the campaign are to expose children to the letters of the alphabet everywhere they go within the community in preparation for school and to further educate families on the importance of exposing children to books and print rich material whenever possible.
Students in the bachelor’s degree course Agricultural Policy and Regulations raised $740 to donate to the Heifer Project to promote sustainable agriculture and advance our understanding of effective policies to feed the world. The funds will purchase a heifer, a pig and a sheep to give to needy families.
The Citrus Campus Model United Nations Club attended the 23rd annual Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference Nov. 15-17 in Atlanta. The CF team represented Cameroon in a number of simulations of United Nations committees, including the General Assembly Plenary, Food and Agricultural Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Economic Commission for Africa.
Student Activities Board leaders from Ocala and Citrus campuses completed the Student Government Association Leadership Training at the Florida College System Student Government Association Legislative Conference held in Orlando in November. The training included six leadership sessions at two conferences and a service project. Ocala Campus participants were Mark Ross, Fernando Chonqui, Yancey Reeder, Katie Cummins and Brandon Haley. Citrus Campus participants were Brian Carrico, Lance Davidson, Andrew Dupler, Kyle Malicoate, Lauren Rodenbach, Jessica Swihart and Emily Thatcher.
The Ocala Campus Student Activities Board, along with Hunter from WIND FM, raised $3,400 through the Third Annual 5K Benefit Run held at the Ocala Campus. The funds were donated to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation in Tampa and the local program Michelle-O-Gram that provides mammograms for women in Marion, Citrus and Levy counties.
