College of Central Florida and the Visual and Performing Arts Department are accepting applications for the CF Young Singers, a choir open to students 8 to 12 years old.
CF Young Singers rehearse Tuesdays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Charles R. Dassance Fine Arts Center, Room 122, at the Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The first rehearsal is Tuesday, Jan. 22. A performance is scheduled for Friday, April 19, as a part of the National Association for the Education of Young Children's Week of the Young Child, held in partnership with CF Teacher Education.
The development of a youth choir is part of an on-going commitment by the college to provide high quality and low cost art experiences to the community. Twenty-five students participated in spring 2012, the program’s first year.
“This year we hope to grow the choir to a slightly larger group,” said Dr. Jennifer Fryns, associate dean, Liberal Arts and Sciences. “We are also very excited to introduce Ruthie Nelson as this year’s choir director. She has a great deal of experience with choral conducting and was very successful in her prior experience working with the Florida Gulf Coast Youth Choirs.”
There is a $25 fee to participate. For information and to obtain a registration form, contact Phyllis Pierazek at 352-854-2322, ext. 1419 or pierazep@cf.edu.
