Central Florida Community College will present the 2007 film "Freedom Writers" on Friday, Feb. 19. The showing is free and begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Hampton Center, 1501 W. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala.

In the film "Freedom Writers," Erin Gruwell is ready to take on the world as she steps inside Wilson High School for her first day of teaching. Her class is a diverse group of teenagers from different walks of life -- African-Americans, Latinos, Asians, juvenile delinquents, gang members and underprivileged students from poor neighborhoods. They hope for nothing more than to make it through the day. The 123-minute film is based on the book "The Freedom Writers Diary" by Gruwell and her students. It was directed by Richard LaGravenese and is rated PG.

The film is part of the Hampton Center Film Series, which is designed to add to the cultural environment in the West Ocala area. The series presents high quality films, each followed by a brief discussion. "Homeless to Harvard" will be shown on March 19.
