Central Florida Community College Theatre will present "Brighton Beach Memoirs," Neil Simon’s accounting of his coming of age and Jewish family experiences during the Depression in Brighton Beach, N.Y.
Between 1961 and 1984, no fewer than 18 Neil Simon plays became smash hits on Broadway, and most of these successfully made their way to film. When Simon’s "Brighton Beach Memoirs" starring Matthew Broderick landed on Broadway in 1984, Simon was considered the premier comic playwright of his generation. After its production the author was lauded as one of the most significant American playwrights of the 20th century.
"A lovely mixture of hilarity and pathos, the play is perhaps Simons’ best and most popular achievement," said Dr. Alex Pinkston, director of the play and adjunct instructor at CFCC.
The performances will take place in CFCC’s Fine Arts Auditorium, 3001 S.W. College Road, Ocala. Matinee performances will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28. Evening performances will be held at 7:30 Wednesday through Saturday, March 24-27. The play contains mature content and may not be suitable for children. Parental discretion is advised.
Tickets are $10 and can be reserved by calling the CFCC Box Office, 352-873-5810, or online at http://cfcc.universitytickets.com.
